Good conversation doesn’t need complex setups or special tools. Without the right space, structure, or question, discussions can lose focus or energy. A simple venue, a clear question, and a skilled facilitator create the conditions for meaningful dialogue that encourages shared learning and deeper understanding.
Running a Knowledge Café requires minimal resources.
- A venue where people can be comfortable and relaxed, with tables and
chairs to seat 4 or 5 people per table, preferably with refreshments. - A group of people – 16 to 32 people works best.
- A host to introduce and oversee the Café. The host does not need to be a specialist, simply a good listener with chairperson skills.
- A powerful question to spark the conversation.
- Time – allow 1.5 to 2 hours.
Keep the setup simple and focused. Choose a comfortable space, bring the right people together, and ask a clear, thought-provoking question. Allow enough time for conversation to unfold. A well-planned Knowledge Café creates the right conditions for meaningful dialogue and shared learning. Small details make a big difference.
