Selecting suitable tables for a Knowledge Café is one of the most critical factors in the success of the Café.
The best conversations are held when people are sitting in touching distance of each other. Any further than that, it isn’t easy to have an intimate conversation. The ideal number of participants in a discussion is three or four.
The table shown below is an ideal size for a Knowledge Café:

Small rectangular tables are not perfect but can work reasonably well, such as in this Café:
Another option is tall pod-like tables at which people stand:
Conference tables like those in the photo below should be avoided. They are too large, and they seat too many people. People sitting across a diameter are too far apart to have an effective conversation.

If you cannot obtain small tables, then it’s better to dispense with the tables altogether, as in this photo:
