Principle: No preconceived outcomes.
When organizing a Knowledge Café, it’s essential to set a clear purpose and theme to provide context. But there should be no predetermined outcomes, as the conversation should unfold organically.
When organizing a Knowledge Café, it’s essential to set the theme and pose a question to define the context and scope of the conversation. However, you should not articulate or imply any desired outcomes, as the outcomes of the discussion should emerge naturally and not be pre-planned.
It’s important to distinguish between a purpose and an outcome. The purpose of a Knowledge Café might be to build better relationships, understand an issue better, or learn from each other. In contrast, an outcome might be deciding or defining a plan.
While a purpose is a type of outcome, it’s broader, not specific or binding. In a good conversation, participants should feel free to discuss topics outside of the selected theme if they choose to do so.
