Practice Leadership: The world is too complex a place and faces far too many issues for only a small number of appointed leaders to make a difference. We need a new, more democratic form of leadership. We all have influence and the potential to lead and make a difference. Leadership is a choice.
Leadership is not a title; it is a way of being. In the spirit of Conversational Leadership, we see leadership as something anyone can engage in, regardless of role or authority. It comes not from position, but through participation; not from control, but through connection.
To practice leadership means showing up with intention. It involves initiating meaningful conversations, listening attentively, asking thought-provoking questions, and learning from others. It shows in the way we relate to people, not in how we direct them.
Everyone has influence. Whether it reaches a few people or many, each of us can help shape understanding, encourage reflection, and invite collaboration. This is leadership in action, rooted in everyday interactions rather than formal roles.
Conversational Leadership encourages us to lead by being attentive, curious, and open. It involves speaking with care, listening with attention, and making room for others to contribute. Leadership is not the work of a few. It is a shared responsibility that can emerge at any moment when someone chooses to take part thoughtfully.
When we stop waiting to be given permission and begin contributing with purpose, we discover that we already have what we need to lead. What matters is that we practice.
Anyone who has a sphere of influence can be considered a leader.
