Theme: What are the strongest motives for creative endeavour in your life?
The need for and significance of creativity in life is as great as ever with the onset of the fourth industrial revolution and the increasing awareness of its value for human well-being (Schultz, 2021; Sellman, 2023; Sharp, 2021 and 2023). But what are the strongest motives for creative endeavour in your life? And why is it so valuable to tap into this?
This knowledge café will address this theme. Dr. Peter Sharp will give a brief introduction on the context and some examples of creative thinkers/practitioners and suggest what may have been strong motives for their endeavours. Then, David Gurteen will give some comments on the topic before the conversation is handed over to you. This promises to be a very interesting evening of discussion on a valuable topic.
Speaker: Dr Peter Sharp (Assistant Professor of Creative Enterprise)
Peter studied History at Oxford University before qualifying as a commercial solicitor. Then, he did an MSc in Computing Science and a PhD in Knowledge Management in which he applied his ideas in industry. Since obtaining his PhD in 2003, he qualified with professional certificates in Teaching and Higher Education and Research Degree Supervision and has worked in the field of business management and professional skills at Regent’s University London.
Peter has always been interested in the crossover of skills from business to higher education and vice versa, and he mentors/supervises learners through postgraduate work placement programmes and business start-up enterprises and encourages staff in a wide variety of creative endeavours (e.g. through painting wellbeing painting workshops). Peter has written extensively on knowledge management, creative enterprise, and innovation and has run an art club for over 10 years. He is a passionate watercolour artist and illustrator.
